Young Carers:
At Astrea Sheffield, we are extremely proud of our young carers and want to support them however possible. A young carer is a child under the age of 18 who helps to look after a relative, such as their parent or sibling. They might do extra jobs, like cleaning, cooking, shopping, or helping them move.
We believe young carers should be celebrated and supported to keep doing the amazing work they do. Therefore, we have a dedicated Young Carers Lead for both our primary and secondary phase. These are: Mrs Wassell (primary) and Mr Krajewski (secondary). Their role is to assist the child and the family, so if you are a young carer or have one in your family, please let us know and we can begin putting support in place.
It is estimated that 1 in 10 children qualify as Young Carers, however the majority of these go unidentified and unrecognised. We work closely with Sheffield Young Carers and the Sheffield Young Carers in Schools Network to ensure we are doing all we can to identify, recognise and support these amazing scholars.
